'Mother is Nigerian father Cameroonian' - Chelsea star films Argentina players singing racist chants about Mbappe, France
Published: July 16, 2024Argentina players were involved in a racist scandal in which they racially abused Real Madrid's tri-national superstar Kylian Mbappe and France national team players of African descent after the Copa America final win against Colombia.
During an Instagram live stream by Enzo Fernandez, the Albiceleste players can be heard singing a chant made by their fans during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Chelsea midfielder tried to hide the racist and transphobic chants by cutting the Instagram Live at this precise moment, but his Argentina teammates were heard singing the beginning of the song.
The song mocked the African origins of several players named in France's 2024 European Championship squad, including Mbappe.
More than half of the players France manager Didier Deschamps took to Germany could have opted to play international football for an African nation if they wished.
The fourteen players of African descent in France's 25-man squad are: Brice Samba (Congo), Ferland Mendy (Senegal/Guinea-Bissau), Dayot Upamecano (Guinea-Bissau), Jules Koundé (Benin), Eduardo Camavinga (Angola), Aurélien Tchouaméni (Cameroon), Mbappe (Nigeria/Cameroon/Algeria), Ousmane Dembélé (Mali), Randal Kolo Muani (Congo), N'Golo Kanté (Mali), William Saliba (Cameroon), Youssouf Fofana (Mali/Ivory Coast), Ibrahima Konaté (Mali) and Bradley Barcola (Togo).
The lyrics of the song are: "They play for France but come from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to *** trans people, their mother is Nigerian, their father Cameroonian, but on the passport French."
Before he became cap-tied to France, Kylian Mbappe was eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his father Wilfred Mbappe, whose parents have Nigerian roots.
