Bournemouth and Stoke City register interest in signing Celtic's Nigerian defender
Published: July 17, 2024
Celtic's Irish-born Nigerian central defender Bosun Lawal is being linked with a departure from the Scottish Premiership champions in the summer transfer window.
According to Football Insider, Premier League team Bournemouth and Championship outfit Stoke City have registered their interest in signing Lawal but face competition from abroad.
The versatile player, who can also be deployed in midfield, is drawing interest from Austrian Bundesliga giants RB Salzburg.
He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Fleetwood Town, where he mustered six goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season.
Celtic are willing to listen to permanent and temporary offers for Lawal who joined the club from Watford in 2021.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has been closely observing Lawal in pre-season and has advised him to step up his game to earn a permanent place in the first team.
He has yet to make an appearance for the first team since making his senior debut in a Scottish FA Cup clash against Greenock Morton FC on January 21, 2023.
Lawal is open to leaving Celtic this summer if he is not guaranteed first team opportunities by the Northern Irish football tactician.
The former St. Kevin's Boys and Bohemians youth teamer has a contract with Celtic under the end of the 2025-2026 season.
