BK Hacken interested in son of ex-Super Eagles midfielder who is also eligible for Italy, Sweden
Published: July 18, 2024
Tri-national winger Emmanuel Ekong is being linked with a return to Sweden, with reports linking him with Allsvenskan side BK Hacken.
Emmanuel is the son of retired Super Eagles midfielder Prince Ikpe Ekong - a member of Nigeria's squad to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured in two games against Republic of Benin and Mali.
Born in Reggio Emilia, he is also eligible to represent the national teams of Sweden and his country of birth, Italy, apart from Nigeria.
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, BK Hacken are interested in signing Empoli winger Emmanuel Ekong.
The 2022 Allsvenskan champions have opened talks with Ekong's camp regarding a transfer but face competition for his signature.
Rijeka, Hajduk Split and unnamed Scandinavian clubs have also been credited with an interest in the forward.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Croatian club NK Istra, where he scored three goals and registered three assists in 21 matches in the SuperSport HNL.
Ekong transferred to Empoli in August 2018 when he was sixteen, and rose through the youth teams ranks to make his Italian Serie A debut against Salernitana in September 2022.
He has turned out for the youth teams of Swedish clubs Bollstanäs SK and IF Brommapojkarna in the past.
