Oyedele bags assist as Man Utd beat Rangers; Dessers, Balogun, Ogunneye also on parade
Published: July 20, 2024
Maxi Oyedele registered an assist for Manchester United in their 2-0 victory over Rangers during their second pre-season match on Saturday.
Also on parade at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh were Super Eagles duo Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun, and United fullback Habeeb Ogunneye.
While Dessers started and was in action for 76 minutes, Balogun played the last fourteen minutes while Oyedele and Ogunneye were involved for the entirety of the second half.
Amad Diallo opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 39th minute, curling a shot into the top right corner after receiving a pass from Mason Mount.
Oyedele provided the assist for the second goal, threading a precise pass from midfield to set up Joe Hugill, who scored in the 70th minute with a powerful shot to the top corner.
Born in England, Oyedele joined Manchester United's academy at the age of eight and has impressed throughout the youth ranks.
He was loaned to Altrincham in the second half of the 2022-2023 season, where he scored four goals in 12 appearances, with one goal against Oldham Athletic being nominated for the club's Goal of the Season.
Although Oyedele has yet to make his competitive debut for Manchester United, he will be keen to catch the manager's eye and secure a place in the first team during the pre-season.
