Aston Villa's move for Iheanacho hinges on sale of Chelsea and West Ham-linked striker
Published: July 21, 2024
According to BirminghamLive, Aston Villa still retain an interest in Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho who is currently a free agent.
The report went on to state that the likelihood of Unai Emery's side moving for the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner depends on whether Jhon Duran, who has been linked with Chelsea and West Ham United, leaves the club.
Duran was part of the Columbia team that lost in the Copa America final to Lionel Messi-led Argentina side and is currently on holiday but his future should be resolved soon.
Should Aston Villa succeed in shifting the Colombian striker elsewhere, a move for Iheanacho could be on the cards as the club will need a backup for Ollie Watkins.
The Lions are looking for a quality striker who will be happy to play second fiddle to Watkins and believe that the Manchester City Academy product fits such a profile.
Almost a month after departing Leicester City, the 27-year-old finds himself without a club despite being linked with a couple within and outside England.
A move to Villa Park will mean that he is ready to sacrifice his game time as Watkins is the preferred first choice striker at the moment but will have the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since leaving Manchester City.
