17yo NPFL Rookie of the Season Suleiman signs two-year pre-contract with AS Trencin
Published: July 22, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League Rookie of the Season, Sani Suleiman has ended speculation about his future by agreeing a move to two-time Slovak champions AS Trenčín.
The GBS Academy winger has earned a transfer to AS Trenčín on the back of a storybook season at Akwa United, in which he mustered eleven goals from nineteen appearances in the Nigerian top flight after joining the Promise Keepers from Nigeria National League club Wikki Tourists.
Despite the gulf in quality between the two divisions, Suleiman adapted to the Nigeria Premier Football League like a duck to water, playing a key role as Akwa United beat the drop on the final day of the season.
Having put himself in the shop window, several top European clubs were battling for his signature but he has decided that it is best for him to start his career at AS Trenčín.
And in doing so, he is set to emulate Super Eagles wingers Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu who began their careers in Europe at AS Trenčín before moving on to bigger things.
The 17-year-old feels AS Trenčín are the best club to continue his development, rather than joining a top-five European League club, where he will not be guaranteed regular playing opportunities.
Bearing in mind Suleiman has yet to attain the age of majority, he has signed a two-year preliminary contract with AS Trenčín, which will be activated as soon as he turns eighteen in September 2024.
In addition to his two-year deal, the Slovak Niké Liga hold a club option for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 season.
Suleiman, who has been officially recognized as one of the top three players in last season's NPFL by virtue of being nominated for the Player of the Season accolade, is currently in the nation's capital, Abuja ahead of his trip to Slovakia on Tuesday morning.
