'Pass to Marta' - Duda Sampaio backs queen of football to equal all-time Olympic scoring record v Nigeria

Brazil midfielder Duda Sampaio is backing Marta to equal an Olympic scoring record when they face African powerhouse, the Super Falcons in their 2024 Olympic Games opener at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique (Bordeaux) on Thursday evening.
Dubbed the queen of football by the Confederation of Brazilian Football, Marta is set to compete in her sixth Olympic Games and is the highest goalscorer in the history of the Brazilian national team with 118 goals in 183 appearances.
With 13 goals scored in the Olympic Games, Marta is only one goal away from equaling the all-time Olympic Games highest goalscorer Cristiane, considering men and women's football.
The Orlando Pride superstar could become the absolute record holder if she manages to score a brace against the Super Falcons.
Duda Sampaio has vowed to assist Marta achieve her goal of entering the history books of Olympic football by providing a pass.
In quotes relayed by Globo, Sampaio said: "I hope so (pass to Marta to break the record). We train very closely together so this connection not only with her, but with everyone is very fine-tuned.
"Whoever is there at the moment, whether midfielder or attacker, can provide the assists and will always be very good for the team."
Rasheedat Ajibade's teammate at Atlético Madrid, Ana Vitória highlighted the importance of Marta in the squad, on and off the pitch.
"Marta's influence is huge in our daily lives. She is our reference point both on and off the field. She is in great form both at the club and with the national team.
"She has had a run of form and is really coming in flying, which makes us very happy," Vitória said.
Marta could also become become the first player – male or female – to score a goal at six consecutive Olympics if she manages to get on the scoresheet against the Super Falcons.
After facing Brazil this evening, the Super Falcons have two more difficult opponents in the group stage, reigning world champions Spain and 2011 world champions Japan.
