'It's time for him to move' - Ex-Super Eagles star urges Osimhen to consider transfer to Arsenal
Published: July 25, 2024
Former Super Eagles defender Sam Elijah has urged Victor Osimhen to explore a transfer to Arsenal following a reported impasse in negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli.
The transfer talks between the two clubs have reportedly stalled due to disagreements over the terms of the deal.
According to sources, Napoli's demand for the inclusion of South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in in the transfer package, combined with PSG's reluctance to meet Osimhen's release clause, have led to a standstill.
Sam Elijah, reflecting on the situation, advised Osimhen to seek a new opportunity after spending four seasons with Napoli.
"Presently, nothing has been finalized but in football, anything can still happen. I think Osimhen should move ahead from Napoli because of the previous challenges he has with the club," Elijah told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Elijah further suggested that a move to Arsenal would be beneficial for Osimhen's career development.
He praised Arsenal's environment, including the club's coaching staff, led by Mikel Arteta.
"I think it is time for him to move forward. I would prefer him to move to Arsenal. it will be so comfortable for him there - the environment, the players, the fans, and most especially the coach.
"Arteta is a patient man who knows how to tailor his side to victory. For me, he should move to Arsenal to continue his career there."
Osimhen has been linked with a move away from Napoli since agreeing to a new contract in December 2023, which included a release clause for potential suitors.
Despite significant interest from top European clubs, the Nigerian striker remains at Napoli as no team has yet met the release clause stipulated in his contract.
The release clause, valued at approximately €120 to €130 million, remains a significant obstacle in finalizing the transfer.
