'The fans will see a new Samuel this year' - Chukwueze vows after brace of assists against Man City
Published: July 28, 2024
After a brilliant display for AC Milan in their 3-2 win over Manchester City at the Yankee Stadium in New York City, Samuel Chukwueze has vowed to step up his performances for the Rossoneri in the forthcoming season.
The Super Eagles winger struggled to adapt to Italian football in his first season at Milan after transferring from Villarreal, registering six goal involvements in thirty-three games across all competitions.
Against Manchester City, Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 19th minute but Lorenzo Colombo equalized at minute 30 after a lovely ball in from Chukwueze.
Four minutes later, Colombo put AC Milan 2-1 up with a close range finish after another dinked ball by Chukwueze.
Manchester City responded through James McAtee in the 55th minute but a terrific goal from Marco Nasti in the 78h minute proved decisive.
Chukwueze contributed to an entertaining friendly as he was wonderful on the ball before making way for Álex Jiménez twenty minutes into the second half.
New AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca has put his faith in the Nigeria national teamer, picking him in the starting lineup in the first two games played by the club in pre-season.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin, via Tuttomercatoweb after the game, Chukwueze said: "I like the new coach, he gave me an opportunity straight away, it's important when someone gives you confidence. The fans will see a new Samu this year."
Ahead of their Serie A opener against Torino on August 17, Chukwueze and his teammates face Real Madrid, Barcelona and Monza in friendly matches.
