'It was difficult to mark him' - Napoli summer signing names Osimhen as toughest striker he faced
Published: July 30, 2024
Alessandro Buongiorno, Napoli's recent acquisition, has highlighted the skills of Victor Osimhen, acknowledging the difficulty of defending against him.
The defender joined Napoli on a five-year deal in the summer transfer window for a reported fee of €35 million, following a successful season at Torino.
Victor Osimhen has attracted interest from several top European clubs, leading to speculation about a potential departure from Naples.
The 25-year-old striker has been linked to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks but the two teams are reportedly hesitant to meet his contract's release clause.
During a recent press conference, Alessandro Buongiorno discussed the challenges of defending against Osimhen and praised the Nigerian striker's formidable qualities.
Buongiorno commended Osimhen as a powerful forward who poses a tough defensive task.
"The striker I had the most difficulty with in the last championship? Osimhen was tough, we all know his strength and speed, it was difficult to mark him," Buongiorno was quoted as saying by Foot Italia.
Osimhen made the switch to Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 and since joining the Italian club, the Nigerian striker has played a crucial role.
He played a pivotal part in Napoli's Scudetto triumph in the 2022/2023 season, breaking a 33-year title drought.
Osimhen has netted an impressive 65 goals in 108 league appearances for Napoli.
