'Like Musah and Pulisic' - Fonseca reckons Chukwueze will be an important player after goal v Real Madrid
Published: August 01, 2024Speaking to reporters after AC Milan's 1-0 win over European champions Real Madrid, manager Paulo Fonseca has predicted that Samuel Chukwueze will be a key player for the Italian giants in the forthcoming season, just like United States internationals
Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah.
After their victory against Premier League champions Manchester City, the Rossoneri made it two wins in as many games with Chukwueze netting the match-winning goal ten minutes into the second half.
The Super Eagles winger continued his excellent form with his second goal involvement in pre-season early in the second half when he slotted into the bottom corner after a delightful pass from Mattia Liberali.
Chukwueze struggled in his first season at AC Milan after joining from Villarreal, so much so that speculation was rife that he would be sold this summer.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner registered six goal involvements in 33 games last season, fifteen of which he started.
Chukwueze's game time was limited because he was behind former Chelsea star Pulisic in the pecking order of right wingers.
In quotes relayed by Goal, Paulo Fonseca told reporters after the victory against Real Madrid: "Chukwuze is more confident. Last season he didn't play much.
"When a new coach arrives it's always like this, the players want to show off. I'm happy for Chukwueze, he's doing very well.
"I think he's showing his qualities. Like Musah and Pulisic, he'll be an important player for the team".
Chukwueze and his teammates will face Barcelona in Baltimore in their final match of their United States Tour.
