Team news: Porto's Super Eagles fullback Zaidu ruled out of Super Cup clash with Sporting CP
Published: August 03, 2024
Super Eagles fullback Zaidu Sanusi is all but ruled out of the Super Cup clash between Porto and Sporting CP at the Estádio Municipal de Aveiro, kickoff 2015 hours on Saturday, August 3.
On Friday at the PortoGaia Sports Training and Training Centre in Olival, Porto completed preparations for the Super Cup match.
Zaidu dd not participate in full training with the rest of his teammates and it is now a foregone conclusion that he will not be called up for the game against Sporting CP.
The latest medical update by Porto revealed that the Nigeria international is undergoing conditioning training.
Zaidu has not figured for Porto since he completely ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament of his left knee in the first half of the club's 2-0 win over Estrela da Amadora on February 17.
His recovery is going according to plan, given that he is not supposed to return to action until at least late August.
Nigeria's first choice left-back was not invited for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin's Cheetahs as he was undergoing rehabilitation.
Last season, Zaidu managed only ten appearances for Porto due to his involvement with the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and his injury problems.
Porto chiefs André Villas-Boas, Andoni Zubizarreta and Jorge Costa were in attendance during Friday's workout.
