Obi-Martin undergoing Manchester United medical today after Arsenal departure
Published: August 06, 2024
Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent Chido Obi-Martin is currently undergoing a medical at English Premier League giants Manchester United after turning down a new contract at Arsenal.
Transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Hale End product is undergoing the first part of his medical tests as a new Manchester United player today.
However, Obi-Martin's transfer to the Red Devils will not be announced immediately as it has to go through the Premier League's five-step investigation process which could take up to four weeks before the move will be official.
The five-step review is a process of investigation conducted before registering any academy player.
Newcastle United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfL Wolfsburg, Ajax Amsterdam and Monaco came away empty-handed in the race to sign the Danish-Nigerian center forward, who prioritized a move to Manchester United.
Obi-Martin is considered one of the top young talents in Europe and made headlines last season after scoring ten goals for Arsenal U16s in a 14-3 win over Liverpool in November 2023.
And he proved it was no fluke by scoring seven goals against Norwich City and five against West Ham United in U18 Premier League fixtures in April.
Obi-Martin joined Arsenal from the youth team of top Danish Superliga club FC Copenhagen four years ago, with the Gunners beating London neighbors Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.
He will sign professional forms with Manchester United on his 17th birthday in November 2024.
