Crystal Palace loanee Ozoh takes Derby County squad number previous worn by ex-Super Eagles star
Published: August 08, 2024
Ahead of the new EFL Championship season, Derby County have finalized their squad numbers, informs the official website of the Rams.
One of Derby County's summer signings, David Ozoh has been allocated the number 4 jersey for the 2024-2025 campaign.
In search of regular game time, the tri-national midfielder, who is eligible for his country of birth Spain, Nigeria and England, completed his move to Derby County fifteen days ago.
Derby County's number 4 kit was previously worn by former Super Eagles midfielder Blessing Kaku, who also represented the Dream Team II at the 2000 Olympic Games, where he featured in matches against Australia, Italy and Chile.
Apart from Kaku, Conor Hourihane, Harrison Solomon, Graeme Shinnie, Craig Bryson, Paul Green, Jay McEveley, Adam Bolder, Alan Wright, Andrew Davies, Chris Makin, Jason Talbot, Dave Walton have worn Derby County's number 4 jersey since the start of the millennium.
As a Derby County player, Kaku appeared in four matches in the Championship during the 2004-2005 season.
A central midfielder by trade, Ozoh played with the number 4 during pre-season preparations.
The highly-rated teenager netted his first goal in Derby County colours, albeit in an unofficial game, as the Championship new boys registered an impressive 2-1 win over Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid at Pride Park Stadium on August 3.
Ozoh - the youngest player to represent Crystal Palace in the English Premier League - is in the frame to make his Championship debut on the opening day of the season when the Rams take on Blackburn Rovers.
When he made his debut in the top-flight, he wore number 77 and was assigned 52 last term at the Eagles.
