Crystal Palace old boy Olise battles Saka, Man Utd stars, 2 others for PFA Young Player of the Year
Published: August 12, 2024
The Professional Footballers' Association has shortlisted Michael Olise for the 2023/2024 Young Player of the Year.
He has been nominated alongside Manchester United stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka, Chelsea forward Cole Palmer and Brighton & Hove Albion striker João Pedro.
Despite struggling with injuries for the lion's share of the last campaign, Olise was able to manage 10 goals and six assists in 19 appearances for Crystal Palace.
It comes as no surprise that he became a subject of interest from European giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich after the campaign before opting to join the Bavarians.
He faces stiff competition for the Young Player of the Year award due to the heroics of his fellow nominees particularly Palmer who bagged 22 goals and 11 assists last term and was named the Premier League Young Player of the Season.
Saka is another who poses a huge threat to his chances of scooping the prestigious award, having contributed to 16 goals and nine assists for Arsenal who finished second last season.
Mainoo and Garnacho also starred in a poor Manchester United side but shouldn't pose much threat to Olise as Palmer and Saka and the same goes for Pedro who netted 20 goals across all competitions for Brighton.
The current holder of the award his Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who will be dethroned on August 20 when a new winner is announced.
