What number will Lookman wear v Real Madrid in Super Cup? Atalanta reveal travelling squad to Poland
Published: August 12, 2024Atalanta have revealed their traveling squad for the UEFA Super Cup encounter against Real Madrid on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.
The squad includes Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman who will retain his number 11 jersey for the clash as he and his teammates seek to win the Super Cup for the first time in Atalanta's history.
Lookman was the hero when the Italian side swept aside Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella's Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final in May but a sterner test awaits them when they face Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The Spanish giants are the most successful European club with 15 European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles and five Super Cup trophies.
They have contested in the Super Cup eight times and have lost thrice with their last defeat being in 2018 when they faced City rivals Atlético Madrid at the Lilleküla Stadium, Estonia.
However, against all odds, Atalanta inspired by Lookman defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final and are also capable of causing another upset against Real Madrid.
The task of Lookman and his teammates has grown bigger due to the horrific injury suffered by Gianluca Scammaca during a pre-season game against Parma last week.
Atalanta have not had the best preparation heading into their clash, as they have failed to win any of their pre-season fixtures but will be hoping that counts for nothing when they face Real Madrid.
