Sevilla battling to register summer signing Iheanacho ahead of La Liga opener against Las Palmas
Published: August 14, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm that Sevilla are struggling to register summer signing Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of their Spanish La Liga opener against Las Palmas on Friday.
The Spanish outfit signed the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner to make up for the loss of Youssef En-Nesyri who left the club for Fenerbahçe last month.
The 27-year-old is expected to play a substantial role by leading the lines for Sevilla in the coming campaign, which is a departure from his position at Leicester City where he had to play second fiddle to Jamie Vardy.
However, reports have stated that the record UEFA Europa League champions are struggling to register the Super Eagles forward due to their financial situation.
Based on the reports, allnigeriasoccer.com contacted the club's Communications Manager Francisco Jesús Rico Lozano to confirm the authenticity of the reports.
Quoting the sporting director Victor Orta, Lozano told allnigeriasoccer.com: "Our sporting director, Victor Orta, explained this yesterday on unveiling press conference of our new goalkeeper, Álvaro Fernández.
"We are busy trying to get as many players registered as possible. We are going to do everything we can to get everyone registered by Friday.
"All the teams are having problems. We have 20 players registered, which is not bad at this stage.
"This is what we can say for the moment."
As mentioned by Orta, struggling to register new players ahead of the start of the new season isn't only an enigma for Sevilla, Barcelona are also yet to register 2024 European championship star Dani Olmo.
The Seville-based side will kick-off the new Spanish La Liga campaign on Friday when they face Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria where they haven't lost in their last three visits.
