Atalanta considering offering new deal to 2024 Europa League final standout performer Lookman
Published: August 22, 2024
Nigeria international Ademola Lookman was officially the standout performer as Atalanta won the Europa League in May, scoring a historic hat-trick to help the Bergamo outfit beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Atalanta are reportedly exploring the possibility of extending the versatile forward's contract and increasing his wages to prevent further transfer issues.
This move comes in response to recent speculation linking the Nigerian winger with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
The transfer saga intensified after Lookman requested to be excluded from Atalanta's Serie A opening match against Lecce on Monday.
This decision prompted a meeting between Atalanta's Chief Executive Officer, Luca Percassi, and Lookman's representative to address the situation.
the meeting was conducted in a positive and relaxed atmosphere. Both parties are now considering extending Lookman's contract and adjusting his salary.
This would mark the first renewal of his contract since he joined Atalanta in 2022.
Lookman, who had a mixed stint with RB Leipzig and was loaned to Fulham and Leicester City, has revitalized his career at Atalanta.
Since his arrival, he has scored 32 goals in 79 appearances across all competitions.
The proposed contract extension and salary adjustment reflect Atalanta's desire to secure Lookman's future and address any potential issues related to his recent transfer speculation.
