Lookman's future: Club chief says any decision will be made for the good of Atalanta
Published: August 25, 2024
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi commented on the future of two of the club's key players Ademola Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners before the Serie A meeting with Torino on Sunday evening.
Lookman was not named in the traveling squad to Turin but this has nothing to do with speculation linking him with a departure from the Bergamo outfit this week.
The Nigeria international is working on his fitness, carrying out personalized work to get back into shape, having missed the opening game against Lecce.
While Lookman was previously on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain, the Dutchman is heavily linked with a move to Atalanta's Serie A rivals Juventus.
However, the French champions have pulled the plug on a potential move, with manager Luis Enrique choosing to replace the injured Goncalo Ramos internally.
Without Lookman in the squad, the Europa League holders cruised to a 4-0 triumph over Lecce in their first match of the season, but were handed a 2-1 defeat by Torino in their second game.
Percassi emphasized that decisions about the future of Lookman and Koopmeiners will be guided by what is best for Atalanta.
"As I have already had the opportunity to say, everyone's aim was to retain all the important players who were protagonists last year," he was quoted as saying by FCInter1908.
"This summer we find ourselves having to manage totally unexpected situations that we are very sorry about, we will see in the next few days. Any decision will be taken for the good of Atalanta ".
Lookman has been named Atalanta's Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons and has a contract with the club until June 30, 2026.
