Brentford interested in signing Fiorentina's Nigerian defender ahead of deadline day
Published: August 26, 2024
Premier League club Brentford are working on a deal to sign Fiorentina's Italian-born Nigerian defender Michaek Kayode ahead of the close of the summer transfer window, according to reports from the English and Italian media.
Transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio informs on his website that 2004-born right-back Kayode is attracting concrete interest from Brentford.
The Bees have already presented an official offer to Fiorentina in an attempt to bring the fullback to the Premier League.
The initial offer was a loan with an obligation to buy tied to the player's appearances, with a total value ranging from 20 to 22 million euros.
Fiorentina don't want to lose one of their academy graduates, especially under the conditions proposed by Brentford,
The 20-year-old is in the plans of Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino for the new season, given that he was involved in the first two competitive matches, although he was a non-playing substitute against Venezia on Sunday, amid speculation surrounding his future.
Kayode turned out for the youth teams of Juventus and Gozzano, before he was snapped up by Fiorentina in 2021.
He worked his way through the youth team ranks at Fiorentina before gaining promotion to the first team, few months after scoring the winning goal in the final of the 2023 European U19 Championship.
Over the course of the 2023-2024 season, Kayode appeared in 37 matches for the Purples, including 31 starts, and registered five goal involvements (1 goal, 4 assists) while logging 2,902 minutes.
The Italy U21 international is under contract with Fiorentina until June 30, 2028, having signed a contract extension in October 2023.
