Case closed: Former PSG target Lookman named in Atalanta's provisional squad to face Inter Milan
Published: August 30, 2024Speculation linking Ademola Lookman with a departure from Atalanta before the close of the summer transfer window has all but ended, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini naming the forward in the provisional squad to face Serie A champions Inter Milan on Friday evening.
Lookman had been linked with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain but the coach of the capital club, Luis Enrique decided to replace the injured Gonçalo Ramos internally.
The Nigeria international had not been called up to the Atalanta squad since the UEFA Super Cup clash against Real Madrid, missing matches in the Italian top flight against Lecce and Torino.
Lookman returned to group training on Thursday, on the eve of the meeting with Inter Milan, and it is thought that he would most likely start on the bench, given that he has been inactive for more than two weeks.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations star was training individually due to the alleged interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Since landing in Italy in the summer of 2022, Lookman has faced Inter Milan five times, including four in the Serie A, and has registered two goal involvements (1 goal, 1 assist).
He was the hero of Atalanta's Europa League triumph in May 2024, scoring a historic hat-trick in the showpiece against Bayer Leverkusen.
The 26-year-old was voted Atalanta's Player of the Season for the second consecutive year after registering twenty seven goal involvements (17 goals, 10 assists) in 45 matches across all competitions in 2023-2024.
