Deadline day Netherlands: Akpom staying put at Ajax Amsterdam until at least January 2025
Published: September 02, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Chuba Akpom has ruled out a move from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer transfer window.
While the transfer window closes in the Netherlands on Monday, September 2, the windows in Turkey, Belgium and Qatar are still open.
There was speculation linking Akpom with a departure from Ajax Amsterdam on deadline day in the top five European Leagues on Friday, August 30, following the signing of Netherlands international striker Wout Weghorst from Burnley.
Although Nottingham Forest and VfB Stuttgart showed interest in the the Hale End Academy graduate, they did not firm up their interest in the attacker by submitting bids to Ajax Amsterdam.
Akpom will consider his options when the transfer window reopens for business in January 2025.
Ajax manager Francesco Farioli will have to decide who is his first choice striker for the first part of the season, with Akpom competing with two Netherlands internationals for a place in the side, or he could change his formation to accommodate the players.
The former England youth international has seen his fortunes rise in the new season with six starts from a possible eight, compared to last season where he was named in the starting lineup eleven times.
Akpom has totaled 44 appearances since joining Ajax from Middlesbrough and has 21 goal involvements (18 goals, 3 assists).
