Official: After failed deadline move to Chelsea, Galatasaray loan in Osimhen from Napoli
Published: September 04, 2024
Galatasaray have officially announced the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen on a season-long loan from Napoli, according to a statement released on its official website.
The 25-year-old forward joined the Yellow-Reds following unsuccessful attempts to secure moves to Chelsea and Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli on the summer transfer deadline day.
According to the statement, Osimhen will receive a net wage of 6,000,000 euros (approximately N10.64 billion in Nigerian currency) for the 2024-2025 season during his loan spell.
The statement read: " An agreement has been reached with professional football player Victor James Osimhen and his club SSCN Napoli SPA regarding the free temporary transfer of the player."
"The football player will be paid a net season wage of 6,000,000 euros for the 2024-2025 season."
This announcement concludes a prolonged transfer saga involving Osimhen and Napoli.
Despite both parties expressing a desire to part ways this summer, finding a suitable suitor proved challenging.
In July, Osimhen had a potential deal with Paris Saint-Germain fall apart as the French champions were unwilling to meet Napoli's demand of either a release clause between 120 to 130 million euros or the inclusion of midfielder Lee Kang-in in the transfer.
On deadline day, interest from Al Ahli and Chelsea emerged. Although Al Ahli reached an agreement with Osimhen and scheduled a medical, Napoli reportedly sought additional funds, preventing the deal from being finalized.
Chelsea also made multiple proposals, but none matched Osimhen's current wages at Napoli, leading to a breakdown in negotiations.
With the transfer saga now resolved, Osimhen is expected to travel to Uyo for the upcoming match against Republic of Benin on Saturday, September 7.
