Son of former Super Eagles defender, six other Nigerians registered by Chelsea to play in Premier League
Published: September 14, 2024
Chelsea have submitted their squad list to the Premier League following the close of the summer transfer window, with seven players eligible to represent Nigeria's national teams registered by the Londoners.
Summer signing from Fulham, Tosin Adarabioyo is among eight homegrown players named in Chelsea's 22-man senior squad.
Although the 20-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka is a first teamer, he was left out of the main list because he is eligible for the U21s.
Joining Chukwuemeka on the U21 roster are Landon Emenalo, the son of former Super Eagles left-back Michael Emenalo, defenders Somto Boniface, Richard Olise, Tayo Subuloye, and winger Tyrique George.
Tosin was called up for the first three games played by Chelsea in this season's Premier League but was not utilized off the bench by manager Enzo Maresca.
Similarly, George was called up three times but did not feature, in games against Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur during the closing stages of the 2023-2024 season under Mauricio Pochettino.
Chukwuemeka has been registered by the Blues for the first part of the season after failing to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closed for business.
Of his thirty-seven appearances in the Premier League, twenty-three were in the colours of Chelsea.
Emenalo, Subuloye, Olise, and Boniface have all participated in training sessions with Chelsea's first team but have yet to be included in a Premier League matchday squad.
Of the aforementioned players of Nigerian descent, only Tosin Adarabioyo was picked in the matchday squad for the evening kickoff against Bournemouth.
