Frank Onyeka made his Bundesliga debut for Augsburg as they registered a 3-1 win over Dapo Afolayan's FC St. Pauli at WWK ARENA on Sunday afternoon.
The Super Eagles midfielder completed a deadline day move to Augsburg and was unavailable for selection as they were beaten 4-0 by Heidenheim in their last game before the international break.
Augsburg head coach Jess Thorup included Onyeka in his starting lineup for the visit of St. Pauli.
Onyeka had an impressive debut and even came close to getting himself on the score sheet on a couple of occasions.
In the 12th minute, after Marius Wolf's cross was headed away, the Brentford loanee pounced on the loose ball and attempted a volley from range, but it went wide.
After Wolf's 47th minute opener, Onyeka provided the assist as Augsburg doubled their advantage in the 67th minute.
Super sub Phillip Tietz guided his header into the bottom corner after Onyeka delivered a curling cross into the back post.
In the 70th minute, Onyeka broke through on goal but was caught in two minds and ended up mis-kicking an attempted pass to Essende.
Carlo Boukhalfa pulled one back for the visitors with fifteen minutes remaining but Kabadayi scored in stoppage time to seal a win for Augsburg.
In his first Bundesliga appearance, Onyeka made way for Arne Maier in the 83rd minute.
According to the official website of the Bundesliga, Onyeka reached a speed of 32.57 km/h, making him the third fastest player after 90 minutes, with only Dimitrios Christos Giannoulis (34.73 km/h) and Ruben Vargas (33.56 km/h) clocking higher speeds.
