Super Eagles defender resumes team training at Fenerbahce ahead of Intercontinental Derby
Published: September 17, 2024
Jose Mourinho has been handed a boost ahead of Fenerbahce's Intercontinental Derby against Istanbul rivals Galatasaray, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Yellow Canaries have started preparations for the meeting with the Lion, and the good news is that their Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel took part in training on Tuesday, September 17.
Osayi-Samuel had been nursing an ankle injury since August 17, an ailment that saw him withdraw from the Super Eagles squad for the back-to-back 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin and Rwanda.
The former Queens Park Rangers man has not figured for Fenerbahce since the matchday two Turkish Super Lig fixture at Göztepe exactly a month ago.
Mourinho had to do without him in three consecutive games against Rizespor, Alanyaspor and Kasimpasa.
The Portuguese football tactician monitored Osayi-Samuel during Tuesday's workout at Fenerbahçe Can Bartu Facilities, with a view to his possible inclusion in the gameday squad to face Galatasaray.
Before the right-back's spell on the sidelines, he was named in the starting lineup on four occasions from a possible six across all competitions in the new season.
Osayi-Samuel is staying put at Fenerbahce until at least January 2025 despite reports that linked him with a return to England in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who is ineligible to face Gaziantep FK on Tuesday evening, should be available for selection against Fenerbahce on Saturday.
