Did AC Milan make a move for Osimhen in summer window? Club chief Zlatan Ibrahimovic reacts
Published: September 18, 2024
Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Senior Advisor to RedBird Capital for AC Milan, remained tight-lipped when questioned about whether AC Milan had tried to sign Napoli-owned striker Victor Osimhen in the recent summer transfer window.
In one of the soap operas of the summer transfer window, Osimhen saw potential moves to Chelsea and Al-Ahli fall through.
The Saudi Arabian Pro League club were hoping to sign Osimhen on a four-year deal but could not reach a club-to-club agreement with Napoli despite agreeing personal terms with the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
As for Chelsea, Osimhen was not motivated to join the Premier League club because their contract offer did not meet his wage demands, leading to a breakdown in negotiations.
The 25-year-old eventually joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan with no option to buy included in the deal.
The Turkish Super Lig giants will cover his entire wages during his loan spell, amounting to 6,000,000 euros net for the 2024-2025 season.
Osimhen is the top-scoring African player in Serie A history, with 65 goals in 108 appearances in the division.
Asked whether AC Milan made an attempt to sign the Nigerian marksman in the summer, Ibrahimovic was quoted as saying by Tuttosport before Milan's Champions League meeting with Liverpool: "Did I try with Osimhen? I'm keeping quiet about Osimhen".
Osimhen bagged an assist on his Galatasaray debut, helping them to a 5-0 win over Rizespor in their first game after the international break.
