Christian Chigozie: History-making central defender on target for Luton Town U17s against Watford
Published: September 19, 2024
History-making central defender Christian Chigozie was on target for Luton Town as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford in an U17 Professional Development League Cup tie on Tuesday night.
Last season, the talented Nigerian defender etched his name into the history books as the youngest Hatter to be on the bench for a Premier League game, whilst still a schoolboy.
Chigozie was an unused substitute against Arsenal and was also a non-playing substitute in another away match at Manchester City.
Regarded as one of Luton Town academy's top talents, he was called up for Championship fixtures against Burnley and Portsmouth in the new season, but remained on the bench without getting any playing time.
Against the Hornets, Chigozie thought he had grabbed the game-winning goal when he broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute, heading home a delivery from Dylan Stitt.
Luton Town were denied all three points as Watford equalized with three minutes left on the clock.
The Hatters U17s are back in action on Saturday morning when they take on league leaders Cheltenham in the Youth Alliance.
