The true story behind Onyedika's failed move to Galatasaray despite Osimhen's efforts
Published: September 24, 2024
The reasons behind Raphael Onyedika's failed transfer to Galatasaray have emerged, despite recommendations from fellow Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen.
Onyedika was linked to move to Galatasaray in the closing moments of the Turkish summer transfer window, but the deal did not materialize.
It was reported that Victor Osimhen recommended the transfer of Onyedika as Galatasaray sought to acquire a midfielder to bolster the squad for the new season.
Despite Osimhen's suggestions, the Yellow Reds' attempt to sign Onyedika was rejected by Club Brugge, even though the player showed interest in the move.
Onyedika was interested in the transfer, having been impressed by the warm reception Osimhen received after his move from Napoli, following a challenging summer.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan after Chelsea, PSG, and Al Ahli were unable to finalize a deal during the summer window.
Despite Onyedika's willingness to join Galatasaray, One Football via Fanatik reported that Club Brugge rejected the offer, citing a lack of time to find a replacement for the midfielder, who has become essential to their squad.
Additionally, the Belgian club was unimpressed with Galatasaray's valuation of the Super Eagles midfielder.
Onyedika agreed a five-year deal with Galatasaray but the Lion's 17 million euros bid fell short of his 20 million euros valuation.
Despite the complexities surrounding the deal, Onyedika has enjoyed a strong start to the season, playing in seven of the first eight matches for Club Brugge.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray are expected to revisit their pursuit of the Super Eagles midfielder in the future transfer windows.
