Lazio coach reveals the two positions Super Eagles star Dele-Bashiru will play at Serie A club
Published: September 24, 2024
Lazio coach Marco Baroni has revealed the two positions Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will play in the team ahead of their upcoming UEFA Europa League match against Dynamo Kyiv.
Baroni, during a press conference on Tuesday, also highlighted Dele-Bashiru's key attributes and explained why he was on the bench in the last two games.
Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio in the summer transfer window on an initial loan from Turkish club Hatayspor, with an obligation to buy, after an impressive season in the Super Lig where he scored eight goals and provided five assists in 36 games.
The 23-year-old made a strong start in Italy, featuring for the entire duration to help Lazio secure a 3-1 victory over Venezia on the opening day.
Despite the strong start to the season, the Nigerian midfielder has lost his spot in the squad, remaining on the bench for the last two games.
Ahead of the match against Dynamo Kyiv, Baroni emphasized Dele-Bashiru's strengths and identified the positions where he can perform effectively.
“Dele-Bashiru has important qualities. He's a modern player, with strength, pace and physicality," Baroni was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.
"He should be built for our midfield. He can work in midfield or behind the striker."
Baroni explained Dele-Bashiru's recent absence from the squad, noting that the midfielder is focusing on improving his positioning through video analysis.
"He's also working with the help of videos to study the movements well. He's finding his place in that role," he added.
As Lazio prepares to begin their Europa League campaign at the Volksparkstadion, Dele-Bashiru will be looking for an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities and reclaim a starting position.
