Why Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa returned to Kano Pillars for third spell; Shehu also joins for free
Published: October 05, 2024
Through official channels, Nigeria Premier Football League side Kano Pillars confirmed on Saturday evening that an agreement in principle has been reached with Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi to join the club for the 2024-2025 season.
Even though the summer transfer window has ended, Kano Pillars succeeded in signing the two Nigeria internationals because they were available on free transfers.
Musa was on the lookout for a new club after terminating his contract with Turkish club Sivasspor in February 2024, while Shehu had been without a team since leaving Bulgarian outfit Levski Sofia in January 2023.
The four-time Nigerian champions have also confirmed that Musa and Shehu have been named in the provisional squad for the matchday 5 fixture against Sunshine Stars at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report exclusively with certainty that there is actually no incentive in the deal bringing Musa back to Kano Pillars.
The former CKSA Moscow and VVV Venlo star decided to return to Kano Pillars for a third spell simply because of the love and passion he has for his childhood club.
Given that he is a billionaire in naira terms, there's obviously no salary offerings from Kano Pillars that could be seen as a motivating factor.
Musa's decision to return to Kano Pillars reflects his desire to support and give back to the community.
The history-making forward, Nigeria's all-time highest goalscorer in the World Cup with four goals in seven matches, won the NPFL Golden Boot in 2009-2010.
