After serious car accident, Boniface ruled out of Brest v Leverkusen due to bandaged hand and foot
Published: October 22, 2024
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will miss Bayer Leverkusen's UEFA Champions League matchday three fixture with Brest at Stade Municipal de Roudourou on Wednesday.
According to German Newspaper Bild, the 23-year-old didn't travel with the rest of his colleagues for the game following the serious car accident he had over the weekend.
The Nigeria international was spotted at the BayArena on Tuesday wearing a bandage on his left hand and right foot.
Boniface didn't participate in training on Monday though he was at Bayer Leverkusen's facility and also didn't take part in the team training today.
The Black and Reds Sporting Director Simon Rolfes revealed on Tuesday morning that Boniface was getting better and didn't shut the door on him featuring against Brest but the club has now decided to excuse him for the game.
Boniface scored the only goal to get the German defending champions the maximum points against AC Milan at the BayArena in the last matchday, registering his first goal in the Champions League in the process.
He will now have to wait for the next matchday, against Premier League giants Liverpool at Anfield, to add to his tally in the competition.
In his absence, Xabi Alonso will be hoping to count on Patrick Schick, who has started just two games this season, to deliver the goods as they seek to brighten their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
