CAF Awards: Nwabali, Onana, Williams up for GK of the Year; Super Eagles in National Team of the Year race

Stanley Nwabali is in the running for the 2024 Confederation of African Football Goalkeeper of the Year, while Nigeria has been nominated for Team of the Year.

He has been nominated alongside Manchester United and Cameroon shot-stopper Andre Onana, South Africa's Ronwen Williams, Oussama Benbot of Algeria, and Ivory Coast's Yahia Fofana.

Also nominated were Amanallah Memmiche of Tunisia, Munir El Kajoui of Morocco, Malian goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, and Egypt's Mostafa Shobeir.

Nwabali broke into the limelight at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, having replaced Francis Uzoho as the Super Eagles' first-choice stopper.

The Chippa United glovesman's heroics in goal would help Nigeria reach the AFCON final for the first time since 2013 as he kept four consecutive clean sheets, the joint-highest in the competition.

Last season, the 28-year-old featured in 29 appearances for Chippa United and kept 12 clean sheets for the South African side.

Nigeria have been nominated for Team of the Year and are in the running with Angola, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan and Uganda.

The Super Eagles got to the final of the 2023 AFCON but will face stiff competition from Cote d'Ivoire who beat them to the AFCON title.

Since the inception of the award in 1980, Nigeria have won the award on three occasions, but they last won it in 2013 when they were crowned African champions.
