'I have said this before' - Osimhen reiterates he has formed a strong partnership with Icardi
Published: October 29, 2024
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has emphasized the potent partnership he has formed with teammate Mauro Icardi, stating that their understanding on the field is a nightmare for opposing defenses.
The Napoli-owned forward's comments came after his impressive performance in the 2-1 win over Beşiktaş in the Süper Lig on Monday.
The Nigerian international scored a crucial header in the 67th minute, sealing the victory for the defending champions.
The match saw Galatasaray take an early lead through Davinson Sánchez's header in the 13th minute.
Osimhen missed a chance to double the advantage in the 38th minute but made amends with his second-half goal.
His header, coupled with Sánchez's earlier effort, marked the first time Galatasaray scored two headed goals against Beşiktaş in a Süper Lig fixture since the 1995/1996 season.
Osimhen's partnership with Icardi has been instrumental in Galatasaray's success, with the duo combining for goals and assists throughout the season.
"Icardi and I get along very well on the field. I have said this before. We work together in training. I know how experienced he is.
"Things he tells me happen. I try to apply them on the field. It is an honor for me to play with him," Osimhen explained, as quoted by Galatasaray's official website.
The Nigerian striker further highlighted the difficulties opposing defenses face when trying to contain both him and Icardi.
"It is very difficult for any defense to block us. When they try to block me, sometimes they fail. When they try to block him, sometimes I fail. I am happy to be able to play with him."
The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner's goal against Beşiktaş marked his fourth of the season, adding to his four assists.
He has now scored or assisted every game for Galatasaray except once, cementing his status as a key player for the Turkish champions.
