Relief for Eguavoen ahead of Super Eagles squad announcement as Moses Simon recovers from knee injury
Published: November 01, 2024
Interim Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen, has received a significant boost ahead of his squad announcement for the upcoming 2025Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as winger Moses Simon has recovered from a knee injury and is set to return to action for Nantes, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The wing-wizard missed Nantes' 3-1 loss to Strasbourg last Sunday due to knee problems.
Simon has regained full fitness and will be available for selection when Nantes takes on Marseille on Sunday.
Nantes coach Antoine would probably be the most excited at this development, as he understands the winger's importance to the team.
Simon's absence was felt in the loss to Strasbourg, where the Canaries struggled to create scoring opportunities.
The 29-year-old Nigerian international has been in impressive form this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in eight Ligue 1 appearances.
His return to fitness will undoubtedly bolster Nantes' attacking options.
The former Levante star's impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, as he broke Nantes' club record for most assists since promotion to Ligue 1 in 2013.
He surpassed the late Emiliano Sala's record with 29 assists, cementing his status as one of the team's key players.
Eguavoen will also be relieved to have Simon available for Nigeria's upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda in November.
Simon played a crucial role in Nigeria's run to the 2023 AFCON final, where they narrowly lost to Ivory Coast.
