PL2: What red-hot forward Butler-Oyedeji said after Arsenal's narrow loss to Chelsea
Published: November 02, 2024
Red-hot Nigerian forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has reflected on Arsenal's narrow 2-1 loss to Chelsea in a Premier League 2 clash at Kingsmeadow on Friday night.
Butler-Oyedeji's goal counted for nothing as the Blues came from a goal down to win the London derby, thanks to strikes from Donnell McNeilly and Brodi Hughes.
The Gunners had the best start with Butler-Oyedeji giving them the lead with a cracking near post finish in the sixth minute.
His stats this season are absolutely incredible, having directly participated in twelve goals (7 goals, 5 assists) in nine matches for the development squad.
Butler-Oyedeji believes Arsenal were unlucky to lose the derby, highlighting the missed opportunities, particularly in the first half.
Speaking to Arsenal Media post-match, Butler-Oyedeji said: "I thought we were unlucky, I thought we were the better side in the first half but I don't think we took our chances and if we don't take our chances, results like this can happen unfortunately."
The 21-year-old talked through his fantastic finish against Chelsea and shared his thoughts on being nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for October, an award he won in August.
"I got the ball. I saw space in the near post so I just smashed it home.
"It’s always good individual accolades but obviously I'm trying to help the team so when results don't go our way I feel more bad than good."
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has handed first team debuts to Tommy Setford, Josh Nichols, Maldini Kacurri, Ismeal Kabia and Jack Porter this season.
Butler-Oyedeji's goal for the rest of the season is to continue giving his best effort and find out where it will take him.
