Tosin unused substitute as Manchester United are pegged back by Chelsea
Published: November 03, 2024
Tosin Adarabioyo was an unused substitute in a Premier League game for the sixth time this season, as he watched from the bench for the entire game during Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
Noni Madueke came close to getting the first goal of the game in the 15th minute, heading Cole Palmer's cross towards the woodwork.
The last touch of the first half would see Marcus Rashford's attempt hit the woodwork from Bruno Fernandes' cross.
Manchester United's biggest opportunity was in the 64th minute when Fernandes sprinted down the right and fed Alejandro Garnacho with a pass inside the area, but the Argentine shockingly couldn't beat Robert Sánchez.
Three minutes later, Sánchez brought down Rasmus Højlund in the penalty area, and Fernandes stepped up to convert the penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Moisés Caicedo put Chelsea back on level terms, with an ambitious strike just at the edge of the penalty area after Manchester United failed to clear their lines properly.
Substitute Enzo Fernández had the chance to put the Blues ahead at the edge of the penalty area with André Onana spotted off his line, but his effort drifted over the crossbar.
Tosin hasn't started a Premier League game since the 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, and he was brought off before the hour mark in the contest.
Levi Colwilll and Wesley Fofana have been Enzo Maresca's first-choice centre-back pairing, with the Anglo-Nigerian defender starting just two Premier League games this season.
Carney Chukwuemeka was left out of the squad yet again, and he is yet to make the matchday squad in the league this campaign.
The 21-year-old has made just two appearances across all competitions.
