Fifa U17 WWC: Nigeria's Flamingos win award but Shakirat Moshood misses out on sliver and bronze boots
Published: November 04, 2024
North Korea have won the 2024 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup for a third time, edging Spain in a penalty shootout in Sunday's showpiece at the Estadio Félix Sánchez, Santo Domingo, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Matters had to be settled from the spot after Jon Il-chong cancelled out Celia Segura's opener.
The United States won the bronze medal after beating Omotara Junaid and Jane Oboavwoduo's England 3-0 in the third place match.
North Korea's Jon Il-chong was awarded the prestigious adidas Golden Ball after seeing off competition from two Spanish forwards, with Pau Comendador earning the adidas Silver Ball and Celia Segura taking home the adidas Bronze Ball.
Spain starlet Pau Comendador was the outright top scorer in the 2024 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup with five goals, taking home the Golden Boot.
There was a four-way tie for the second highest goalscorer, with Flamingos midfielder Shakirat Moshood, North Korea's Choe Rim-jong, Spain's Celia Segura and United States' Kennedy Fuller finishing the tournament with four goals each.
Fifa awarded the Silver Boot to the American and the Bronze Boot to the Spaniard.
While Kennedy Fuller and Celia Segura registered three and two assists respectively, Nigeria number 8 Moshood managed one over the course of four games.
After keeping four clean sheets in five matches and conceding just once in the loss to North Korea in the semifinals, the outstanding United States goalkeeper Evan O'Steen was awarded the Golden Glove.
Nigeria took home the Fifa Fair Play trophy for their exemplary behavior and having the best record of fair play during the 2024 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup.
