Tosin scores first goal, full debut for George as ruthless Chelsea set record with 8-0 win against Noah
Published: November 07, 2024Tosin Adarabioyo scored his first goal and Tyrique George made his full debut as Chelsea made UEFA Europa Conference League history by beating Noah 8-0 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
The 8-0 victory is the biggest ever win in UEFA Conference League history, surpassing Nordsjælland's 7-1 rout of Ludogorets in 2023.
Tosin opened the floodgate in the 12th minute, planting a bullet header into the bottom corner from Enzo Fernández's well-delivered corner kick.
A minute later, Marc Guiu also bagged his first goal for the Premier League giants, taking advantage of a mistake from Noah's defence.
Axel Disasi added to the tally with another header, courtesy of a fine cross from Fernández and the Argentine midfielder would then assist João Félix for the fourth of the night.
Christopher Nkunku set up Mykhailo Mudryk for the fifth and Axel Disasi rounded up the scoring in the first half, putting the ball into the net from Felix's pass.
According to statisticians at Opta, the Blues 6-0 lead over Noah was the biggest scoreline recorded by an English side since Derby County were winning 9-0 against Finn Harps in the 1976-77 UEFA Cup.
The Portuguese winger could have increased the scoreline not long after the restart but it was Nkunku that got the honour, scoring from close range.
Chelsea were not done scoring as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was brought down in the penalty area, and after a check by the VAR, a penalty was awarded, and Nkunku stepped up to win the battle of the wills by converting the spot kick.
Tosin was an unused substitute in the last Europa Conference League fixture but was reinstated back into the starting lineup, having played no part against Manchester United last Sunday.
Having made four appearances as a substitute, George eventually grabbed his first start for the Blues, being the youngest player named in the starting lineup by Enzo Maresca.
He was replaced after the hour mark by another Nigeria-eligible player, Carney Chukwuemeka, whose search for a first start this season continues.
