Marquee Galatasaray signing Osimhen sets two Turkish Super Lig records after brace against Samsunspor
Published: November 10, 2024
Victor Osimhen netted twice in Galatasaray's 3-2 win over Samsunspor at the RAMS Park on Sunday afternoon and set two Turkish Super Lig records in the process.
The Napoli-owned center forward joined Galatasaray on loan in September after failed moves to Chelsea and Al-Ahli.
Three minutes into the game, the 25-year-old opened the scoring, rising over his marker to nod the ball incredibly into the back of the net from Lucas Torreira's cross.
Osimhen became the first player to score or assist in each of his first six games in the Turkish Super Lig since 2014-2015 when Opta started collecting data in this area.
He provided an assist against Rizespor and Fenerbahce, before getting on the scoresheet in four consecutive games against Kasımpaşa, Antalyaspor, Beşiktaş and Samsunspor.
Another opportunity came his way in the 26th minute when a cross floated into the area, unmarked, he rose to meet the cross but surprisingly couldn't find the target.
Four minutes after the start of the second half, Davinson Sánchez committed a foul inside the box, and the away side levelled the scoring through Olivier Ntcham's penalty kick.
Osimhen restored the lead for the defending Turkish champions, rising at the far post to meet a cross, and he made no mistake to find the back of the net.
Mitchy Batsuayi extended Galatasaray's lead five minutes before stoppage time, maintaining composure to find the bottom corner.
The home side then conceded another penalty in the stoppage time which was converted by Youssef Ait Bennasser, but they were able to hold their nerves to seal the maximum points.
British sports analytics company, Opta confirmed that Osimhen registered seven headers, the most by a player in the Super Lig since Opta had detailed data in this area in 2014-2015.
