2025 Afconq: Eguavoen vows not to overload the Super Eagles with excessive training sessions

Super Eagles interim manager Austin Eguavoen has pledged not to subject the players to intense training sessions ahead of their upcoming clash against Benin.

The Super Eagles' camp is now bustling with 21 players already in attendance, with Stanley Nwabali and Umar Sadiq yet to arrive.

The first set of players arrived on Monday, including key figures such as AC Milan's Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Bruno Onyemaechi, Gabriel Osho, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

By Tuesday afternoon, more players joined the camp, including Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Victor Collins, Alex Iwobi, and Alhassan Yusuf, bringing the total number of players in camp to 21.

In an interview with Victor Modo, the Super Eagles media officier Promise Efoghe confirmed that the Super Eagles will begin their preparations with an evening training session on Tuesday at 1900 hours local time.

Despite the busy football season, Promise emphasized that technical crew intend to keep training sessions light to avoid overworking the players.

"The team will train later once later tonight at about 7pm. The coaching crew has said they would not stretch the players with too many training regimes, because the season is one and they have been playing for their clubs, so it makes no sense pushing them too hard physically," Efoghe explained.

"What they need to do is do some tactical exercises and fine tune the team to play together as a team and get the right result.

"So two or three training sessions before matchday would just be enough because these guys are professionals and have some of the best legs in the world."

Nigeria will face the Cheetahs on Thursday, November 14, at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in a vital match that could seal their qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Nigeria leads Group D with 10 points from four matches and needs only a draw to guarantee their spot in the 2025 AFCON.

On the other hand, Benin, with six points, must win the match to keep their qualification hopes alive.
