'He has scored 300 goals' - Napoli chief suggests Osimhen is not on the same level as Lukaku
Published: November 20, 2024
Napoli director Giovanni Manna has suggested that Victor Osimhen is not on the same level as Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku was chosen by Antonio Conto to replace the Nigerian striker in the summer after the latter insisted that he wanted to leave and the former Chelsea striker hasn't fared badly in the colours of the Parthenopeans.
The Belgium international has four goals and four assists in 10 appearances in the Serie A and his performances is one of the reasons the Naples-based club sit atop of the standings.
Osimhen led Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years and is still very much loved by the fans of the club, thereby sparkling comparison with Lukaku.
Speaking about Lukaku's performance after the Social Football Summit 2024, Manna admitted that the 31-year-old can't be compared to the Nigeria international, expressing his preference for the Belgian forward
In quotes relayed by Area Napoli, Giovanni Manna said: "He is a player who moves in the Italian market. Every week there is controversy, he has scored 4 goals and 4 assists and has a proactive attitude.
"Of course in the minds of the fans there is Victor Osimhen who has dominated the championship alone and they are two different things.
"Lukaku cannot be discussed, he has scored 300 goals in his career."
Lukaku has scored 305 club goals during the course of representing RSC Anderlecht, Inter Milan, Everton, Manchester United, Chelsea, AS Roma, West Bromwich Albion and Napoli.
Osimhen on the other hand has 122 goals playing for VfL Wolfsburg, Charleroi, Lille, Napoli and Galatasaray.
The reigning African Men's Footballer of the Year is also doing well away from Naples, scoring eight goals across all competitions for Galatasaray.
