Icardi's injury: Gift Orban will not join Super Eagles striker Osimhen at Galatasaray
Published: November 21, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that media reports at home and abroad linking 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban with a transfer to Turkish champions Galatasaray in the January transfer window are wide of the mark.
According to multiple press reports in Turkey, it has been claimed that Galatasaray are planning a move for Orban to fill the void left by Mauro Icardi, who could be out for the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in their Europa League win against Tottenham Hotspur.
The report added that Galatasaray have received the green light from Orban for the deal to go ahead, and the Lion will make an attempt to sign the forward on loan during the winter transfer window.
Following Icardi's injury, Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk now has two recognized center forwards, Victor Osimhen and Michy Batshuayi.
It has been suggested that he has informed the management to strengthen the attacking options when the transfer window opens for business in the coming weeks.
It is confirmed that Gift Orban will not be joining Osimhen at Galatasaray in January as the Lyon number 9 is not in talks with the Istanbul club over a transfer.
Speculation about the future of the 22-year-old is beginning to swirl due to a lack of sufficient game time at Lyon.
Out of the fifteen games in all competitions Lyon have played this season, Orban has started only three, with a total of 259 minutes on the pitch.
The former KAA Gent goal poacher has a contract with Lyon until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
