'Icardi is jealous of Osimhen' - Ex-Besiktas defender makes controversial remarks about Galatasaray stars
Published: November 26, 2024Former Beşiktaş defender Selim Soydan has made an interesting claim about Galatasaray star strikers Victor Osimhen and Mauro Icardi.
The arrival of the Super Eagles forward raised concern regarding how Okan Buruk will deploy him and the Argentina international who has been one of the major contributors to the team's success in the past two seasons.
Buruk has deployed the two forwards together and that has yielded results for his side, with five wins and one draw recorded in the game they have both started.
Galatasaray have scored 16 goals within that period, with Icardi scoring four goals and Osimhen finding the back of the net the same number of times.
The partnership between the duo has been halted due to the cruciate ligament injury picked up by the Argentine forward.
Despite the success recorded by their partnership so far, Soydan has claimed that Icardi isn't happy with Osimhen's blistering start at Galatasaray with the Nigeria international becoming a fan favourite.
In quotes relayed by Haber sari kirmizi, he said: "I can say this very clearly that Mauro Icardi is jealous of Osimhen. He did not expect it to explode this much. The fans also embraced Osimhen. It is not just about football. A footballer is jealous of another footballer, a goal scorer is jealous of another goal scorer, a star is jealous of another star. It is not a situation that an athlete can tolerate.
"If Victor Osimhen and Mauro Icardi had played 3-4 more games, they would have wiped Icardi off the pitch. He couldn't focus on the pitch because he separated from his wife. If Osimhen starts to get productive, all the goals Mauro Icardi scored will be forgotten in 2 days, that's all I'm saying."
The Nigeria forward has scored eight goals and four assists in 10 games across all competitions, which is more than his strike partner, who has managed just six goals and two assists in 14 games.
Galatasaray look more threatening in attack with the presence of the two quality strikers but are now resting on Osimhen to deliver the goods in the absence of Icardi.
