After serving a suspension, Onyedika returns to UCL action for Club Brugge in 1-1 draw with Celtic
Published: November 27, 2024
Raphael Onyedika returned to action in the UEFA Champions League for Club Brugge as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Celtic at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.
The Super Eagles midfielder missed the last fixture against Aston Villa at the Jan Breydel Stadium due to suspension having received a red card against AC Milan.
Cameron Carter-Vickers gave the Belgian side the lead through an unbelievable error, passing the ball into his net, in an attempt to give a pass to goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Daizen Maeda restored parity with a brilliant finish on the hour mark for the Scottish side, curling the ball into the top corner, leaving Simon Mignolet with nothing to do.
Ferran Jutgla put the ball home in the 71st minute for the away side but the VAR came to Celtic's rescue, ruling the goal out as offside to keep the scoreline level.
Onyedika lasted the entire duration of the contest, recording 61 touches, completing 90% of his passes, winning all his ground duels, losing the only aerial duel he contested, making one interception, three tackles and wasn't dribbled past.
He has only failed to start once in the competition this campaign, which was against Aston Villa on November 6.
The Nigeria international provided the match-winning assist against Sturm Graz, and that has been his only goal involvement in the tournament this term, but he has two in the Jupiler Pro-League.
