The Best Fifa Men's 11: Lookman, Troost-Ekong nominated alongside Messi, Ronaldo, Arsenal CBs
Published: November 29, 2024
The Super Eagles duo of William Troost-Ekong and Ademola Lookman have been nominated for the 2024 Best Fifa Men's 11.
Lookman was selected for the attacker's category alongside Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, Tottenham Hotspur icon Harry Kane, Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and 14 others.
Troost-Ekong was nominated for the defender's category, alongside Arsenal defensive duo Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba and 19 others
The players that will be selected for the team will be determined by the votes of fans.
Lookman's inclusion comes as no surprise based on his exploits for club and country; he finished 14th in the Ballon d'Or and is also one of the leading contenders for the African Men's Footballer of the Year.
Off the back of an impressive outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Atalanta forward built on the momentum to establish himself as one of the most decisive players in the Serie A.
Troost-Ekong produced a defensive masterclass at AFCON, leading the Super Eagles to the final of the competition, for the first time in a decade.
In recognition of his contribution, he received the best player award for the tournament ahead of Lookman and others.
He initially made the list for the African Men's Footballer of the Year award but did not make the final shortlist.
