Man Utd icon picks Okocha over Neymar as most skilful player while building his perfect footballer
Published: November 29, 2024
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has stirred debate in the football community by selecting Austin Jay-Jay Okocha over Neymar as the most skillful player while constructing his "perfect footballer."
Ferdinand made the bold choice during an interview with Mailsport on Instagram, where he was tasked with building his "perfect footballer" by selecting specific attributes from various players.
While crafting the ultimate footballing maestro, Ferdinand selected Diego Maradona’s left foot, Cristiano Ronaldo’s right foot, Xavi Hernandez’s football football intelligence, Adebayo Akinfenwa’s strength, and Kylian Mbappé’s speed.
However, the most contentious moment arose when he was asked to identify the most skillful player.
Initially leaning towards Neymar, the Manchester United legend quickly changed his mind, citing Super Eagles star Okocha instead.
When asked to build his perfect footballer, Ferdinand replied; "Diego Maradona's left foot, Cristiano Ronaldo's right foot, Xavi Hernandez's football intelligence, Akinfenwa's strength, and Kylian Mbappe's speed, and Okocha's skills"
The Super Eagles legend dazzled the Premier League with his skills and talent during his four-year spell with Bolton Wanderers in England.
The display dazzled the former Manchester United defender and left an indelible mark on him.
Okocha was impressive during his time in England, a performance that saw him deliver countless moments of magic for Bolton.
Known for his flair and creativity. Okocha scored 14 goals and registered 10 assists in 124 Premier League appearances.
His performances earned him the Premier League Player of the Month award in November 2003 and Bolton Wanderers Player of the Year accolade in the 2004/2005 season.
While Neymar has often been lauded for his dazzling displays and creativity in the modern era, Ferdinand’s choice underscored the impact Okocha had during his career.
