Confirmed: Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy to coach Ndidi, Okoli at Leicester City
Published: November 29, 2024
With a statement on the official website, Leicester City have confirmed the appointment of legendary Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as the new coach of the club.
The retired Netherlands international has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the Foxes, until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
The Dutchman is making a swift return to the Premier League, less than three weeks after leaving Manchester United, where he served as interim coach and oversaw four matches, securing two victories against Leicester City.
There was no place for Ruud van Nistelrooy at Manchester United following the arrival of the new manager Ruben Amorim.
It's the 48-year-old's third job as head coach of a professional club, having previously managed Jong PSV and the first team of PSV Eindhoven.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of Leicester City after Saturday's Premier League match against Brentford.
The former Manchester United star will be working with two Nigerian players at Leicester City - midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and central defender Caleb Okoli.
Van Nistelrooy coached cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent, Noni Madueke and Emmanuel van de Blaak at PSV.
Under former coach Steve Cooper, Ndidi appeared in twelve official matches, scoring one goal and producing four assists, while summer arrival from Atalanta Okoli played in eleven matches, all of which he started.
Leicester are in sixteenth place in the Premier League with ten points, one point behind the relegation zone.
