Iwobi's near miss in Fulham's 1-1 draw against Tottenham: Andy Reid calls it hard luck
Published: December 01, 2024
Former Tottenham midfielder Andy Reid has expressed that Alex Iwobi was unfortunate not to score during Fulham's 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham took the lead in the 54th minute when Brennan Johnson found the back of the net, breaking the deadlock after a goalless first half.
However, Fulham responded swiftly, with Tom Cairney equalizing just thirteen minutes later, finishing off a well-placed layoff from Iwobi.
Reid highlighted a pivotal moment just before halftime when Iwobi came agonizingly close to giving Fulham the lead.
After finding space in the right channel, the Super Eagles star's shot rattled the crossbar, leaving him frustrated.
Reid, commenting on the close call on BBC Radio 5 Live Online, stated; "Alex Iwobi is so unlucky. It was a really good move from Fulham. Iwobi has tried to side foot it into the corner and he's so, so close."
Despite the missed opportunity, Iwobi's overall contribution to the game was significant.
He has been a standout performer for Fulham this season, tallying three goals and three assists in fifteen appearances across all competitions.
His creativity and skill on the ball continue to make him a crucial player for the team as they navigate the challenges of the current campaign.
