Confirmed: Dual-national forward eligible for Nigeria and Ireland joins Watford
Published: December 04, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Championship club Watford have announced the signing of talented dual-national forward Nicholas Okosun.
Okosun qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father as well as the Republic of Ireland, where he was raised.
The 18-year-old has ended his association with Irish club Bohemians by signing a contract with the Hornets ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
Although the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the Irish-Nigerian youngster has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal, until 2029, with Watford having the option of an additional year.
A Republic of Ireland U19 international, Okosun will initially start his Watford career with the club's development squad.
Okosun, who can play as a striker or winger, appeared in twelve matches across all competitions for Bohemians, including seven in the Premier Division, logging 296 minutes.
Ireland U17s clinched their place in the UEFA European U17 Championship in Hungary thanks to Okosun's match-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Cyprus in March 2023.
He made four appearances off the bench during the 2023 U17 Euro, helping Ireland reach the quarterfinals.
Nigerian trio Tobi Adeyemo, Prince Sikiru and Jonathan Lawson, all part of Watford's U21 team, are now joined by Okosun with effect from January 1, 2025.
